My Travels in Aklan

Almost three months.  That's how long I was away, on a holiday, no work and was wandering here and there.  Most of those times I stayed in Iloilo.  I had some trips to Buruanga, Caticlan, Madalag, Malay and Boracay in Aklan.  I also had some trips to Buenavista in Guimaras as well as to Bacolod City.  Other than that, Iloilo was my home.

Buruanga was the last municipality of Aklan.  A cousin works there as a municipal doctor.  She invited me and another cousin to spend some few days there in her place.

A few days after I arrived in Iloilo, I proceeded to Malay, Aklan where my cousin, Matu lives.  I took a Ceres bus from Iloilo to Malay and the trip lasted around five hours. There, I met Bon, another cousin who came from Manila via Cebu Pacific.

Matu brought us first to Bel-is Resort in Buruanga.

Bel-is Resort is privately owned.  The owner is a friend of Matu thus we were able to go there.  We took off from Buruanga proper.  We hired a pump boat and it took us around thirty minutes to reach Bel-is.  Along the way we passed by Hinugtan Beach resort, another go-to resort that is open to the public.

When we reached Bel-is Resort, we were greeted by the long stretch of white sand and the pristine beach.  There were lots of rest houses, colourful ones, made of mostly native materials.  There were some caretakers in the resort.

We brought our own food.  We stayed there until around five in the afternoon.  The beach is well preserved.  There were lots of sea urchins in the deeper part of the beach.

Bel-is Resort deserve another trip.

When we reached Buruanga port on our way back, we watched the beautiful sunset there.

Next, we spent a few hours in the world-famous Boracay.

Being in the vicinity of Boracay, it is a mortal sin not to go there.  My cousin Matu lives in Malay, Aklan, thus going to Boracay is a breeze.  And so, Boracay it is.

We went there late in the afternoon so that we could have a glimpse of the night life.  It's been years since I set foot to Boracay again, and I noticed some changes already, lots of them.

They have their regular port now.  And the place was so crowded with lots of construction works all around.

We proceeded to Station 2, and the area was teeming with people, Pinoys and foreigners alike.

There were lots of activities at night.  There were lots of live bands, fire dancers, street sellers, restaurants, colourful lights, and lots of people strolling around.

We had our dinner at Mesa.  Then listened to an acoustic group over a bottle of San Mig light that cost 100 pesos a bottle.

We went home at around 10.

Then Matu brought us to Liktinon in Madalag, Aklan.

Liktinon has white rocks on the river.  It was on top of the mountain of Madalag, Aklan.

We travelled from Malay to Madalag for around two hours.  Some policemen accompanied us to Liktinon because we were not familiar with the place.  It took us another hour to reach it.  It was raining when we reached the area.  The rain created instant waterfalls on the rock formations.

The place is frequented by trekkers, mostly youths who go there on their motorcycles.

There were some locals there who met and accommodated us.  There were also some youths who arrived ahead of us and they were enjoying the rain and they were exploring the white rocks upstream.

The rock formation was beautiful. The locals told us that more people visit the area during summer.  They developed the place so that tourists could enjoy it more.  Our Liktinon trip was marvellous.

Our five-day Aklan trip was worth it.  But it deserve another trip.
