TechiE

Nope, I am not referring to Tetchie Agbayani. What I mean is the advent of technology.

Hey, we seldom send mails and parcels now. We just push some buttons in a tiny gadget and presto, we had already sent our messages through. In an instant. Not just to the room next door, but even to far away lala land, like say Africa or Antarctica as long as there is a signal there. Are we sending the post office to kingdom come? But there are still the LBC, DHL, and the like. Well, if we could just shove all those parcels in our cellphones, why not, di ba?

And then, there is the internet. Gosh, I just ‘talked’ to a classmate, whom I didn’t see for almost 20 years now, in the net. Just like talking to a neighbor over the fence.

And in our trade, there is the Autocad. I am a poor draftsman, and drawing was one of the least favorite subject in college way back, but if the autocad was introduced during our college days, it would have been a breeze. But hey, the computer was just in its infancy in our school during those times! Cannot be, borrow one.

There is also the Staad.Pro, the Primavera, the MS Project. Ooooh, engineers now are getting lazy. They don’t do long computations now. All they have to do is hit those keyboards and presto, they have their work ready in a few minutes.

I had just taken up a short course in Autocad 2009 and would you believe, I am the oldest in our class, and my instructress can pass up as my daughter? Can you imagine that?

Then there is the Friendster. And the Facebook. And my long lost classmates and friends suddenly appeared. In different sizes and shapes! Spread all over the world.

And some of them have different surnames now!

Wow.

We used to make a joke before that time will come that when you will call somebody, you will be able to talk to him face to face over the phone. And now, we have the video call. The joke became real!

This is technology, my dear.
